What is the furthest back anyone has traced their genealogy? ›

In Iceland, many people have their family history traced back 30 generations. China maintained lineage records for at least the last 2,000 years. The longest line of ancestry is apparently the Kang(姜) clan, which is 5,200 years old.

Pedigree, genealogy refer to an account of ancestry. A pedigree is a table or chart recording a line of ancestors, either of persons or (more especially) of animals, as horses, cattle, and dogs; in the case of animals, such a table is used as proof of superior qualities: a detailed pedigree.

Your parents are one generation back. Your grandparents are two generations back. Your great-grandparents are three generations back, and so forth. First cousins share grandparents, counting back two generations to their shared ancestors.

The Oldest Family Trees

While the Confucius family tree carries the title of the biggest one, the Lurie family is known as the oldest one in the world. Its history traces back to 1037 BC. According to the records, the family lineage starts from the 3rd king of the United Monarchy of Israel and Judah called King David.
